Pincushion Flower Macro, Scabiosa Caucasiaby Andrew Jones
Pincushion Flower (Scabiosa Caucasia) growing in my garden in County Kilkenny in Ireland. Its a perennial, which grows to about 1.5 meters each year with multiple flowers each one atop a long stem. It has a very pretty bud (first photo below) before opening into this dramatic bloom with delicate white petals. Shortly after this stage the anthers open (second photograph). Thanks to CdnSue for the help with identification.
