Il Carapace, La Cantina della Tenuta CastelBuono, Umbria, Italy by

The Cantina della Tenuta CastelBuono, designed by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro is called “Il Carapace” (the tortoise shell). This living, working cantina (winery) rises like some prehistoric monster from the surrounding landscape, yet it is somehow perfectly harmonised with that landscape.

The casual observer could be forgiven for thinking this was an observatory. The point of the sculpture touching the corner of the frame is a very nice touch.

  • thanks Roger, it took me a few shots to get that framing right.
