Is This a Protest?
A Song I’ve been meaning to write for a while, it’s about protesters who only protest for one day essentially, but its also about how people in this country especially are reluctant to take to the streets to get involved with these types of things and have unfortunately, a very negative point of view that you can’t change the world.
Is This a Protest? belongs to the following groups:
All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Everyday Life, Something To Say and West Midlands UKMy hand strokes my beard in procrastination
It is time we pondered for an answer
In time we let our pondering meander
And in time we become old but non-the-wiser
You need a very good excuse to take a day off
We’re not as liberal as we seem outside the workplace
And if we’re scratching at the surface it has
Recovered from its wounds and it’s asking us
Is this a protest?
Is this a protest?
On the streets of London
Walking in out of tube stations
With profound placards of public discontent
The city shows no regard for this call
The buses still run and the people still walk
With their eyes fixed firmly on the ground
There’s only time to be stressed with your big city lives
Is this a protest?
Is this a protest?
Make our way to the tanning booth
And choose red, yellow or blue
Melancholy sighs from the silent majority
The voices of those who understand but shrug their shoulders
When everybody walks or stands solemn
You keep to your own schedule, no defiance
The perimeters of your devoted alligance
To the values of a deflating stock market
Hypothetical situations of panic inflated by the media
And our average lives examined by an expert
Is this a protest?
Is this a protest?
Make our way to the tanning booth
And choose red, yellow or blue
When the autumn leaves are dead
And small coats are replaced by thick jackets of repression
Not as nonchalant as the silence held by many
But half-hearted in the battle which leave plenty far behind
Masked in graffiti and neon-capabilities
In hideouts of general obedience, forts of consumer negligance
And we spend one day in a group we belong to
And fall back into circular stability for love or money
Is this a protest?
Is this a protest?
