Safe House

This is a trip inside the head of a mentally ill prisoner struggling to cope with life inside and obviously he/she is using self-harming as a method of comfort against the suffering, the line “this is not a cry for help, this is a scream” is a quote from a pyschologist describing the rise of self-harming in prison.

Safe House belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Something To Say and West Midlands UK

I’m being driven to a safe house, where I can bounce off the walls
Like being driven from addiction onto a hospital ward
The chemical solutions leave me with a dreary head
And if I’m chained to the ground I’m an easier target

So I’ll pick at the scabs with this kitchen knife
The fifth one in the set is always the biggest
And continue till the carpet is wearing my skin
This is not a cry for help this is a scream.

My reaction is compulsory and these convulsions are neccessary
To avoid a fate in the hands of another specialist
I scrawl out a prescription for more contemporary drugs
Something with more of a kick to send me to dream world

So I’ll pick at the scabs with this kitchen knife
The fifth one in the set is always the biggest
And continue till the carpet is wearing my skin
This is not a cry for help this is a scream.

I’m locked in a room with a number on my shirt
Like the way we’re all defined by a national insurance card
There are cronies in my head discussing the relevance of being
And there’s a martyr at the table about to blow my brains out
