The Mountain Bothy
Loch Aslaich, Highlands Scotland
A bothy is a basic shelter, usually left unlocked and available for anyone to use without charge. Bothies are to be found in remote, mountainous areas of Scotland, northern England and Wales. They are particularly common in the Scottish Highlands.
Bothies are usually owned by the landowner of the estate on which they stand, though the actual owner is rarely involved in any way, other than by permitting their continued existence. Some are maintained by an organisation known as the Mountain Bothies Association (MBA), who look after around 100 bothies.
The location of bothies is not publicised widely – prior knowledge and word of mouth are often the only way of finding a bothy.

This reminds me of show I watched when I was a young child called” Little House on the Prairie” Set in the early 1900’s when the settlers were just making a dent in this land.
I always wished I could have been born then, to live as they do. Backbreaking hard work, growing my own food, taking care of my children and living in peace with the earth. This pic gives me the same “ache”. The wish for simpler times, and a desire to get away from being “city-fied”. I really love it.
