Circa 1857 - Frankston Pier

Circa 1857 - Frankston Pier

Frankston Pier. Another seascape study in black and white.

As I was taking photo of this pier in Frankston, Victoria, a local came by and told me story of this pier. It was built in 1857 so fishermen could ship their catches to Melbourne. It had known better days and seen ladies in long dresses and fancy hats as by mid 1880s Frankston was gradually becoming something like a holiday resort.

Hard to imagine all these now, but I was told, the local council has started the refurbishment and timber top has already been removed.

I personally like the pier like this, it makes a nice minimalistic seascape.
