Rainbow at The Pinnacles
The Pinnacles Desert, Western Australia, early morning, July 2009
The first shot from my short trip around mid-north-west of Western Australia. I made to The Pinnacles just by the sunrise, was literally racing the sun to get there! The roads in WA are really great, can’t compare to NSW. I guess we need to thank the mining boom for this great road system. Anyway, as soon as I get there, I see this beautiful yellow sandstone rocks sticking from the ground, and guess what? I was chasing the sunrise, and so was the rain! So had to run to the car and grab an umbrella, and after few minutes the sun was gone.
I should have more photos of that rainbow in RAW format I hope, so I can check them when I get home in 3 days. And now I am sitting in a hotel in Kalbarri – great little town about 700 km North from Perth, there is a band playing next door, and probably for that reason my wireless internet keeps dropping out. It timed out few times, so I reduced the file size. An plus it is Vodafone which is crap in rural areas.

Thank you Miu-Ling! The self portrait taken in my new studio – just kidding! I was at white sand dunes acting as a perfect background with clouds covering the mornig sun like a giant softbox! Perfect lighting conditions but no other models to shoot. I had to try and that was the result. I like it and glad you like it too :-))

I wish you were right, may be in something else but unfortunately I didn’t have much luck with the weather, if not rain then cloudy and the only time I could take the photos of the sunset in Indian Ocean, it was covered in clouds. And this morning it’s really windy and forecast to rain. I’ll go anyway. Cheers :-))

One of the things I like most about your photo above is the huge contrast between the stark and simple desert to the lush and complex skyscape.
