Orb weaver, Heurodes sp. at Glenbrook, New South Wales, Australia.

Nikon D300, Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D, Pop-up flash, Mini-diffuser

ISO 400, 1/125s, f/22, EV+0.3

This little one spins a small orb every night in one of the Banksia shrubs in our backyard. It is very small and not easy to photograph, especially when being attached by mosquitoes.

About Andrew Trevor-Jones

I have been participating in photography in one form or other since I was very young. It has been a passion that has not left me.

Most of my photographs are of natural subjects both above and below the water, with macro photography being my favourite.

I use Nikon gear and Ikelite housings.

Excellent capture Andrew ! I haven’t found one of these … yet … and I can relate to the difficulty of keeping the camera still while being attacked by mozzies !

  • Thanks, Trish. This is the first of these I remember seeing, but we do get some odd spiders. This one looks so much like a bit of branch. I have yet to find it during the day when the web has been taken down.
