As the Sun sets.

This image of the Right Mitten framed in between two rocks shows the shadow of the Left Mitten falling across it. The Sky was doing some amazing things behind me and I noticed that most people had truned for the sunset. I steedfast remained shooting into the park. The change in colour taking place in the Valley as the sunset came closer was amazing. The right rock is slightly burned in but I am not one to play in Layers. This is a 3 image HDR given only a slight adjustment. The resulting image was then processed in CS3 with a slight adjustment to straighten the horizion and curves to add a little extra contrast. All 3 images to make the HDR were shot with a Nikon D70

    Another fantastic image, Andrew. You’ve definitely got a knack for finding and creating fresh perspectives. This is beautifully framed and fantastically lit, proof that the decision to eschew the sunset was the correct one. In my book, there is nothing so pure and beautiful as late evening sun falling through dry desert air to bathe painted rocks and sandstone bluffs in golden glory. This image is a perfect illustration of why that is so, and you have enhanced the effect greatly by finding such a beautiful framing device and including the narow ribbon of twisting road that links everything together and draws the eye inward to the prized mitten. Fantastic!

    One will often see the great unwashed pointing their point and shooters in the wrong direction; usually at the sun. it’s what the sun’s light is doing in the opposite direction that is more important. At least you have the intelligence to recognise that, as is evident in this superb piece of work. I will have to visit you sometime so I can see the rest of the series.
