Monolith

Andrew Leighton

Monolith

This is quite an old picture, but it is a personal favourite of mine. I took it a couple of years ago with a little digital compact and despite many attempts to recreate this scene using the SLR I still haven’t got a shot as good as this. :)
Captured just up the lane from my house near Selby

Well blow me sideways – I hunted half the country out last weekend looking for an image like this – I even had the fog one morning…..couldnt find a stack of square bales anywhere near where I was (Newbury, Berkshire) at the time. This is grand. Ta for the recent favourite. I’ll have a good look around your portfolio again soon. Do I take it from your avatar you work in also forestry? I did for a while – now, like you, I’m poverty stricken and stuck in horticulture where there is little money unless you own the facility!

Wow, beautiful work! The strong, formal composition is just perfect here, and I love the viewpoint and sense of texture – I really feel as though I’m standing in the photo.

Wonderful composition and depth of field! Just proves that it is the photographer and not the camera that creates the great image.

That is a clever perspective. This has worked really well with lines, depth and size…
