Vacant
This old and no longer used employment vacancy sign on the grimy facade of a local business caught my eye. I wanted to convey a feeling that the sign was still battling on doing its job.

oooo….I like the different colours in the windows along the side to balance the red vacancy sign!

Really different and interesting Andrew, love the composition, the way you have just got the bricks in on the right. Lots of nice squares. The white back ground adds a minimalist feel. Love the splash of red from the sign and the metalic colours on the windows. Nice work.
Jared Revell
Great image Andrew.
don’t know if I’d stay there…
Kim Roper
Interesting composition Andrew, nicely balanced lines and a touch of colour to create atmosphere!
Susan Zohn
Great shot Andrew. I love the sign and the contrast of the walls and the glass on the left. Excellent compostion my friend. Love it! I see you did get out and take some shot. Good for you. You aren’t sick?
Andrew Brown
Thanks Mel. I was pretty happy with this, the colours in the glass bricks were not obvious when I took the shot and only “appeared” when I lightened that area up a bit with PS (but dont tell anyone!)

There is something so mysterious about this shot Andrew. I wonder what? The bright red stands out against the pale environment. This shot could have so many interpretations…..would love to know what yours was :). Well thought out, as always. Good work!

Thanks so much for your kind comments always Sylvia. I’m glad you like the comp. I took another image cropped close in on the vacancies sign and thought about working on that one initially. The wall was dirty and grotty to start with but I made the image B&W and then brought out the red and the bricks.
Andrew Brown
Thanks Jared, fortunately it’s not a Motel. This is actually one of those job vacancy boards you see outside businesses (don’t see many these days). But I’m not sure I would want to work there either!
Thanks Kim. I always appreciate your comments

Excellent Work…Very cool, how the sign isn’t fully lit up…NICE Work!!!
Andrew Brown
Thanks Susan. I always appreciate your comments. Didn’t have to venture far for this image though.

Thanks for your comments Momlee. Even though it ’s not a neon light – when I saw this sign I envisaged one of those signs where only some of the neon lights work or some of the letters are flashing and buzzing. I was attempting to achieve that type of look with this image?
Andrew Brown
Thank you Madison. Much appreciated
Paul Vanzella

the selective colouring here is great – it’s a technique that only works when treated subtly, and you’ve certainly done that here – great stuff.

Thanks so much Jonathan, I appreciate your comments very much.
