What arrogance abounds in one
who seems so ill-prepared for Xanadu?
Which high and mighty principle is laid aside
that I succeed where others only fail?
Ambition, of untimely worth undoes
the best intention and my life is now
before me, in tatters and in rags.
Yet still, I yearn to wear the monarchs crown!
By God, I’ll not be beaten
by the legions of misfortune
for every downward slope implies
a hill to climb and conquer.
No mortal man nor woman yet
shall lay me low, for as much as I am able,
I am the master of my own determination
and, damn life, here I stand defiant!
An unashamed repost. It is the only bit of Shakesperian style verse that I have ever attempted and a lot of my friends took a copy of it as inspiration. They usually hung it in their lavatory. A great contemplating aid perhaps LOL. The sentiment expressed is mine entirely and shows something of my character (I hope)
