A Vile Act

Have ten years really have come and gone?
Since that vile and in human act caused
The deepest shock at so much loss of life.
which, on that day, became the cause of such despair.
For days, it wrought the best intention void.
And set our lives before us, in tatters and in rags.
But, by everything that we hold good and just,
we’ll turn and greet the legions of misfortune,
to say that every downward slope implies
A hill to climb and conquer.
No mortal man shall harm or bring us low
And, while we mourn such heedless loss of life,
we shall not fail, for, as much as we are able,
We are the masters of our own determination;
So, damn life, here we stand, defiant.

Artist's Description

This is re-working of my poems A Monarch’s Crown and was penned in tribute to all those who lost their lives as a result of 9/11. I have just read it again and what I have written barely seems adequate in light of ther enormity of the event.

God rest all their souls and, if it is at all possible, bring peace to the survivors. Amen.
