Feeding hungry chicks constantly is a difficult and exhausting job for parent birds, but the fact that around 95% of all birds are socially monogamous, meaning they’ll stick with the same partner at least for a breeding season – and possibly longer. This lessens the burden of caring for their young – feeding takes up a large chunk of their day and is shared more or less equally by both parents.
