I Have To Say... I Do Prefer Soft Serve - Silver-Eye - NZ by

A freezing cold morning after a heavy Hoar frost, the little Silver-Eyes gather to replenish their energy to survive the bitter cold. The Hoar frost floats through the air for a brief moment as the Silver-Eyes land on the branches like sparkling fairy dust falling to the ground. The heat of the sun creates steam as it warms the frozen branches and highlights the breath of the birds in the air. Arguments break out; friends are chased off just in case there is not enough to go round… they never stop chatting. The angry birds spend more time chasing one another than they do eating… The apples froze solid over night, not sure how they managed to eat them, but they sure are delightful to watch… Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 Southland NZ June 2012

TOP 10

My fascination with birds began as a child and almost 50 years down the track my love for our feathered friends has not diminished. Once we moved to Tranquillity (our little country retreat) my passion for birds, all nature and wildlife became a digital reality through the lens of my camera.

Great image, I love this perspective where you can see that they eat the insides and leave the skin.

  • Thank you, your kind comments are always so very much appreciated Byron. They always leave the skin, I guess it is like not eating the crusts of bread…lol

Oh, this is so precious and the video as well! They move so fast! Do they eat suet, too, or just fruit?

  • Thank you, your kind comments are always so very much appreciated Dot. Glad you enjoyed the clip. Yes they do eat the suet, and sugar water with oats… they also eat bugs
