When we got our three hens shortly after moving to the country, they had obviously been raised in a small cage or indoors, they did not know how to perch, they had never seen grass, felt the wind blow through their feathers, take a sunbathe, scratch in the dirt, and so on.. It has been such a joy to watch them discover the earth, rain and even snow. Their natural instincts have led them and I am sure the shed or cage is but a distant memory as they roam free, sunbathing, dust bathing, and finding worms. It has been wonderful to watch their enjoyment and explorations. We are rewarded with an egg from each daily… Dorothy taking a dust bathe in the pit.
