The Crested Pigeon is also known as the Crested Dove, the Crested Bronze-wing, the Top-knot Pigeon, and the Whistle-winged Pigeon. It is an endemic species of Australia, and is one of only two Australian pigeons to possess an erect crest (the other is the Spinifex Pigeon).
The Crested Pigeon is primarily a resident of drier wooded grasslands of the Australian interior. It has also benefited from the expansion of agriculture, and is now found throughout Australia save the driest and densest forests. The Crested Pigeon occurs from the wild to cultivated lands and even suburban parks. Nests are built from twigs and are hidden in the dense foliage of bushes. These birds have the most amazing colouring and plumage, they seem very peaceful and appear to have a gentle nature.
