Do you remember Legal Adoption, well here is the story, let me refresh your memory.
Our hen, named “One” by Becky our God daughter who was only 3 years old at the time decided that she really wanted to have babies. She went broody and no matter what I did, she was going to sit on the nest and her eggs till something happened. We decided rather than put her through any further stress that we would buy a couple of day old chicks and allow her to rear them as if they were her own. It was such a special moment to witness and watch her reaction to the babies. I removed the eggs one by one which were infertile and gently replaced them with baby chicks. She was a little confused for a few seconds, but once she realized they were babies you could feel her joy. Woman who are unable to have children adopt if they can, so I though why should we not apply the same for our hen.
Legal Adoption! – Chickens

It was amusing to watch the chicks growing up, they copied what ever mum did. This little one was sunbathing, trying to imitate, they do not always get it right, they topple over, but get up and try it again. Using a leaf in the garden this one used its little head and the leaf became a prop to help keep its balance while sunbathing. A good way to soak up the sun without tumbling backwards again..
The Leaf Sun Lounger

Well the leaf sun lounger has grown up, and sun bathes without a leaf prop these days. He has learned to crow too, much to Keith’s delight. This image immediately made me think of Ferdinand the Bull and the bright colours of Spain. Our beautiful rooster (we call him Brosster) seems to grow a couple of inches every day, he looks intimidating to the casual observer, but I often spend time cuddling him on my lap, preening his pin feather and stroking his soft plumage. Just like Ferdinand, Brooster would rather spend his days, smelling the roses.
Take Time To Stop And Smell The Roses

The Story of Ferdinand (1936) is the best known work written by American author Munro Leaf and illustrated by Robert Lawson. The children’s book tells the story of a bull who would rather smell the flowers than fight in bullfights. He sits in the middle of the bull ring failing to take heed of any of the provocations of the matador and others to fight.
