New Year’s Eve is observed on December 31, the final day of the Gregorian calendar, the day before New Year’s Day. New Year’s Eve is a separate observance from the observance of New Year’s Day. In modern practice, fireworks, music, other forms of noisemaking, and alcoholic beverages are common elements of the New Year’s Eve celebration. New Year’s Eve is often celebrated with parties and social gatherings spanning the transition of the year at midnight. Fireworks were invented in ancient China in the 12th century to scare away evil spirits, as a natural extension of the Four Great Inventions of ancient China of gunpowder. Such important events and festivities as Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival were and still are times when fireworks are guaranteed sights. China is the largest manufacturer and exporter of fireworks in the world.
I am personally not a fan of fireworks they create noise, light, smoke, and floating materials even though they are beautiful when they light up the night sky. I always worry about the animals with the loud noise the rockets and crackers set off when they are launched into the sky. For the animals it must be horrific and very frightening and terrifying.
