Head Gear! - Merino - Sheep - NZ by

The Merino is an economically influential breed of sheep prized for its wool. Merinos are regarded as having some of the finest and softest wool of any sheep. Poll Merinos have no horns (or very small stubs, known as scurs), and horned Merino rams have long, spiral horns which grow close to the head. The Merino is an excellent forager and very adaptable. It is bred predominantly for its wool, and its carcase2 size is generally smaller than that of sheep bred for meat. South African Meat Merino (SAMM), American Rambouillet and German Merinofleischschaf3 have been bred to balance wool production and carcase quality.

My fascination with birds began as a child and almost 50 years down the track my love for our feathered friends has not diminished. Once we moved to Tranquillity (our little country retreat) my passion for birds, all nature and wildlife became a digital reality through the lens of my camera.

Nice capture and a nice set of horns,do you not tag your animals? we tag all animals that can be eaten.

  • Thank you for your comment Declan, your support is appreciated. I thin this one is a breeding male so he will not be tagged for the roasting dish.
