I'm Camouflaged In A Web! - Silvereye - Wax Eye - New Zealand by

Just when I thought that I had captured every possible angle or antic of these little bundles of feathers I caught this little fellow camouflaged in the tree today. He stayed there while I took his photo even though I suspect he was trying to get some peace to have an afternoon nap. He has brushed his head through a spider web and is wearing it on his head, perhaps additional camouflage! 20th Dec. 2012 Lumix Southland New Zealand
Camouflage is a method of crypsis—avoidance of observation—that allows an otherwise visible organism or object to remain indiscernible from the surrounding environment through deception. Examples include a tiger’s stripes, the battledress of a modern soldier and a butterfly camouflaging itself as a leaf. The theory of camouflage covers the various strategies which are used to achieve this effect. For more information on the silvereye please see my journal.

My fascination with birds began as a child and almost 50 years down the track my love for our feathered friends has not diminished. Once we moved to Tranquillity (our little country retreat) my passion for birds, all nature and wildlife became a digital reality through the lens of my camera.
