Hey...Where Is The Nectar Bowl - Tui - NZ by

We were thrilled to have the Tui at “Tranquillity” last winter… Now that the days are cooler, he has returned to resume the same spot… I guess I will need to put the nectar bowl out again… The little Silver-Eyes are returning too… it is always wonderful to have the winter birds return home… Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Southland New Zealand

Hey…Where Is The Nectar Bowl – Tui

T?? are common throughout New Zealand in forests, towns and on off-shore islands. They are adaptable and are found not only in native forests, bush reserves and bush remnants but also in suburban areas, particularly in winter if there is a flowering gum about. These attractive birds can often be heard singing their beautiful melodies long before they are spotted. If you are fortunate to glimpse one you will recognise them by their distinctive white tuft under their throat, which contrasts dramatically with the metallic blue-green sheen to their underlying black colour.

My fascination with birds began as a child and almost 50 years down the track my love for our feathered friends has not diminished. Once we moved to Tranquillity (our little country retreat) my passion for birds, all nature and wildlife became a digital reality through the lens of my camera.

Stunning image Andrea – it really shows up their beautiful colours well ! Our Mr Nasty ( alias the dark assassin )has taken his lady love away from the Totara tree but still frequents the sugar water two or three times a day ! We seem to have gained two younger birds – could be offspring of Mr & Mrs Nasty…..!

  • They are cunning, beautiful and amazing to watch… enjoy your youngsters… Thank you for taking the time to post a lovely comment, much appreciated
