Shrub to 1–2 m high, mostly glabrous, often with glaucous stems and rachises. Leaves 10–35 cm long;3–20 mm wide.Conflorescences terminal, paniculate, 20–30 cm long, exceeding the leaves. Perianth c. 15 mm long. Follicle 30–50 mm long. The nectar of Lomatia silaifolia flowers contains cyanide and is reputed to kill flies, but is not known to poison livestock.
