I bet that was an awesome sight! By the picture you posted, wish I were there! Its beautiful!

  • thanks, swaby! it’s amazing how water that thunders 65 km/hr in the summer freezes and slows down and in the winter!

Niagara Falls – my home town; was born within earshot of this mighty spectacle. Such a gorgeous photo. It doesn’t really slow down because of freezing in the winter – the power authorities control water flow through intakes above the cataracts. It does ice up, however, & you’ve caught those colossal icicles beautifully. We now have an ice boom at the mouth of the Niagara at Buffalo, & that keeps the big ice jams from forming in the Upper & Lower River. But we still get a bit of an ice bridge below the falls. In years gone by, the ice bridge was just that – a bridge which supported people & vendors with little concession stands. A dangerous business, but very popular back then! ~ Sheila

  • thanks for your kind comment, sheila! thanks also for sharing info on the freezing (or jamming) of the ice… now we know who’s responsible! =) you’re blessed to have such a beauty in your backyard! when i lived in toronto, i drove to niagara as often as i went to the airport… everyone visiting just had to see the falls and the neighborhood! =) cheers!
