A beautiful grevillea captured on my morning walk this morning.

If anyone an identify the species I’d be most appreciative as I like to tag them with their scientific name where possible.

Lumix FZ35, Macro mode

The genus Grevillea is probably the most popular and widely cultivated of all of Australia’s plant genera. The reasons for this are not difficult to find. The plants occur in numerous shapes and sizes so that there is a Grevillea for almost any conceivable garden situation. Added to this are the colourful flowers which, in many cases, attract birds.

Grevillea is a member of the Protea family (Proteaceae) and its close relatives include Banksia, Hakea, Dryandra, Isopogon and Telopea (the Waratah). Grevillea is named after Charles Francis Greville who was one of the founders of the Royal Horticultural Society in 1804. There are over 300 species in the genus, most of which are endemic to Australia but a few species occur in Papua New Guinea and islands to Australia’s north.

And I have been honoured to have this work FEATURED by the following group(s):
Grevilleas

In the late 1970s I completed the 2 years of a 4 yr Professional Photography Cert at TAFE, but was defeated by the physics of lenses.
In 2004 I bought my first DSLR & now shoot full time with medium format digital and professional Canon DSLRs.
I provide tuition to small groups via photography workshops for small groups (max 5) and Photoshop PP classes, and conduct small group photography tours to Australian & (soon) NZ destinations.

  • Thanks, Missy. A lot of them are very similar, but this one was so pretty I couldn’t go past it.
