A spot of silliness

New to church and bible
unfamiliar with Anglican ways
I recall with great embarrassment
my young adulthood days

I sat numb bum in church one day
Ash Wednesday I recall
whence in my immaturity
off pew did I near fall

For a belly full of laughter
from within me did it rise
Had I seen correctly
Could I believe my eyes

The more I tried to stop this laughter
the more the battle won
the pew did shake beneath me
and along it must have run

What was the Vicar playing at
for in the center of his head
his intern had placed a fingerprint of ash
left a mark on the poor old Rev

Nothing of it did I think
of resemblance to day
until each and everyone had come
to be marked in same perculiar way

A spot of silliness

Sooooooooo humiliating and put me firmly in my place as I dare not move… A time I shall never forget and a day I won’t either!
