A bird flew over the countryside
dropped an acorn from its beak
behold it rooted where it fell
grew healthy strong and meek
Over years the root fed well
the twig became a tree
and as it grew there year on year
a ring of life within it be
Just like the fingerprint of man
these rings a story told
of age and whence it came from
of its health so strong and bold
The oak tree grew great branches
with leaves and acorns new
and birds moved in and nested
and bees hived in trunk too
Upon the ground were field mice
that shaded under tree
and if you look upon the bark
there’s a heart where he loved she
That tree is now a landmark
a woods of old and new
the view from it magnificent
preserving natures few
These few so often drop the seeds
that scatter on the land
but they grow into a carpet
fit for Royalty so grand
