I knew you

I knew you belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, The Scots are Coming, United Kingdom, War and WMG

Just one of many men of war
You continue in a way that’s
Almost ironed
You walk amongst the dying
Unconcerned
That earth we trod
Once life now laid to rest
Dismembered bodies strewn
Bloody limbs dangle hang
No guns are left
To thump those beats of war
Where blood clogged wheels sleep
Untimely death

Now programmed to ignore
We laugh past decimation
But in a soldiers soul
Minds imagination
Lies a history of
Truths untold
A blinded recognition
Awake at night
When terror strikes
Discontent tormented

I knew you in your pain
Saw in your eyes you’d killed
I watched you helpless
When your blood boiled spilled
Unwounded but astounded
Mouth gaped
The bullet struck hard
No longer cause to mourn

My eyes and head bleed more
Where bodies do not lie
Years on my spirit restless
O’er what was seen and done
As remembering you
My mind it won’t give in
And once more I face my
Tortured soul alive
No side does really win

Soldiers are never unconcerned or disconnected, we live the pain everyday, but we learn not to show because we lived it so others wouldnt have to. Its a beautiful poem, I wonder though how you know so much about war? Were you in the service?

A little experience but mainly well read or watched over time. The unconcerned and disconnected speaks more of the matter of fact manner a soldier learns to move around with as they get on with doing their job. It shows how they have to close down to a certain degree to cope with what they see to be able to move on and get on with duties engaged. Thank you all for reading and commenting!

Maria thats fantastic, must have taken you an age to create….so honored you can take inspiration from my writings and create such wonderful creations… This one so very different from your usual very feminine/heartfelt pieces and yet still so powerful in its own right…can’t wait to see your new works, thanks again! Anna-Marie.
