Initially created for the Illustration Friday theme of Camouflage (June 22nd, 2007). As soon as I read the name of the theme, the picture popped into my head. Reworked to meet RedBubble portfolio standards, and will differ slightly from the image displayed in the Illustration Friday link.

Yeah I see what you mean Evangeline. I had the same problems with one of my photos too. I used a bit of unshapening on that. Looked fine on my puter … had these bleeds on here. :( It’s only ever happened with the one photo with me though. Even though I use the filter on lot of my work. Maybe try uploading something else? Just to see if it happens with that as well. It’s a shame .. .I really like this!!!! I can see past the fuzzies though. :) :) You did an awesome job :D:D

  • Evangeline Than

    Evangeline Than

Thank you Craig, it takes a rare person to see past the fuzzies :)

Last night, after 5 hours of processing and viewing at 300% to make sure it still looked good, didn’t have any jaggies etc., I nearly died when I saw how it uploaded (at half-past midnight with a 9-5 job the next day). I pride myself on doing a professional job and this doesn’t look professional at all.

Thanks for the advice. I can’t do much about it until this evening, unfortunately. I will try some different resolutions tonight, perhaps in the medium-sized format, do some more research into Photoshop image resizing and maybe try another image.

Well, have tried for hours, but JPEG compression is just awful.

Pehpsi – thank you! Would you believe that I had more trouble drawing the rabbit than the flowers? The flowers were a breeze but the bunny took a lot of coaxing and working to get the right shape. I paid a visit to your portfolio yesterday and WOW, nice pictures. You’ve got a knack for landscapes, I must say.

Nicole – thank you for your comment. I love your portraits, they have a really delicate quality about them.

    Thanks :)

Yeah this preview looks much better..

I stopped uploading my work as JPG’s and went for PNG files instead. This meant i had to re-upload about 70 shots at the time!

  • Craig Shillington

    Craig Shillington

That looks heaps better Evangeline!! Was your first one uploaded as a png? I notice RB made it a Jpg is all.

Pehpsi … I am thinking of doing that too!! I try so hard to do all my editing in one go and save the Jpg as high quality as possible, but I do notice a lot more noise in them on the bubble as compared to them on my puter. Doesn’t the Bubble change them to Jpg though?

  • Evangeline Than

    Evangeline Than

    Hi Pehpsi and Craig!

Yep, all my images are uploaded as PNGs, since they aren’t as lossy as JPEGs. But the RB algorithm that compresses the images to make previews and thumbnails (as JPEGs) does not seem to like my pictures :p I think because they have large swatches of the same colour.

Que sera sera. Perhaps one day we will have the option to upload our own preview images (fingers crossed!).

Yeah Illustration friday, i noticed the theme too.
Never got the chance to do it every time =P , This really works with the theme tho.

  • Evangeline Than

    Evangeline Than

Hiya kookylane, thank you for your comments! Each comment I get is like a ray of sunshine covered in chocolate with a floppy panda centre i.e. they make me very, very happy :)

Illustration Friday is pretty awesome, I reckon. Very supportive and friendly community. Their blog is also great for ideas and introducing you to new artists. It’s nice to work on the same theme as so many people and to see all the variations.

I’ve only started doing IF again but it is hard to do it every week. I’ll keep an eye out for you on IF – hope to see you there soon!

You know the original is crisper than the redbub version but i wouldn`t say better…

I think the jpeg compression has given the flowers a cool textured look….nice work!

  • Evangeline Than

    Evangeline Than

    Thanks dude!

But I like the crispiness! (As a short-sighted person, I’m biased and blurry = bad :) Still, it’s good to know it does not look like a total disaster with the compression.

When you’ve been working on a piece for 10 hours your judgement tends to wander …

Made a small amendment and took my signature out of the bottom RH corner. When the image is made into cards the sides are cropped and the cropped image had a partial of the signature on it.

Hi Evangeline, I love this picture. You have done a wonderful job. Pictures of rabbits always remind me of Watership Down. I cried so much seeing the movie as a kid! :D

  • Samantha Van Stralendorff

    Samantha Van S...

hi E. I may be viewing an image long since past its blurriness phase, or there is something wrong with ME-but these images both look great. I guess I need to output some images of my own to real get it…

I love the poppies..and you DREW that bunny? you didn’t get a bunny pic and sihouette it?! What a hard worker you are!

and Kitsu-I cried at Watership down too—and I thought I that was a secret over emotional me that no one else felt! thank god, I’m not alooonnnnee!

  • Evangeline Than

    Evangeline Than

Hiya Kitsumma, I don’t remember the movie, but I love the Bright Eyes song by Art Garfunkel. The book still made me cry.

Hi sunset, and thank you. I’ve been staring at this picture for hours while drawing it so perhaps it’s me being hyper-critical as well. I did draw the bunny, and he was a hard critter to draw too! Especially in the face. I had one version which looked more realistic with his nose holes etc., but when I put the background shadows layer on it didn’t look so good, back to the drawing board, yada yada …

I’m a bit disappointed that I couldn’t get it right sooner, since my brother has a pet rabbit (named Mao), and I see him every day!

I feel for you hun, my patterns look pretty horrible on RB because of the crappy quality. I just have to trust that people will be able to see bast that fuzziness.

It’s no problem with this image, as it’s bold, bright and all the colours compliment each other perfectly! Good job!
