and how do you feel about stem cell research….(probably a stupid question)

  • Ash Sivils replied

Honestly, I haven’t formed an opinion yet.
You have to look at the sacrifice. Save
millions or no one, that’s a tricky topic.

I have not educated myself enough
on the topic to say one way or another..
How do you feel about it?

  • zandria

Wow…very strong image and message…and one I so agree with! Children are such a treasure and so many are not treasured or valued as they should be.
At six weeks you can see their heartbeat on an ultrasound…amazing.

  • Ash Sivils replied

I don’t have any children but
    kids love me..why I don’t know ha!

I am an aunt 5 times over and wouldn’t
trade it for the world! But I do know
what abortion does to a woman after
it’s said and done..I have seen it, it’s
    literally insane!

Thank you for taking an interest in this piece.
It means alot to me and I agree that children
    are not disposable!

My husband and I had a difficult journey to have our daughter. Six years and lots of medical intervention finally brought us our miracle. She is an IVF/ICSI baby. Through that journey I developed very strong opinions on the subject as we watched so many struggle like us and so many others take it for granted. Becoming a “Mommy” has undoubtedly been my most blessed and treasured experience.
We have 20 nieces and nephews ourselves…so much fun!

  • Ash Sivils replied

    The entire idea is so

    Hi Ash,

Extremely powerful image. When I first saw the thumbnail, I almost didn’t open it but was drawn to do so.

On the image itself – the idea and concept is very well presented and composed, lighting is perfect and the pipes in the background really enhance the subject.

On abortion, I am Pro-life myself and cannot condone abortion on demand.

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Ash Sivils replied

    Thanks Mike,

personally this image was difficult to do
but it flowed well and I didn’t hit any bumps
along the way. Although it is a tough and tricky
topic, I think I kept it low key for people to think for
    themselves, that’s important.

I believe abortion should be used in serious cases
but not as an escape from a mistake. We all make
mistakes, that is why there are words for errors.

So many couples are dying to have children and
can’t conceive and others are throwing them away
like garbage, it disturbs me a great deal.

Thank you for your thoughts and your
    kind words.

i think your image is absolutly amazing.
personally i dont agree with a total ban on abortion, only in things like rape or incest…....
“To kill something that you create out of negligence should have a right to live”
well if your raped it sure as hell werent your fault..
regardless, life is infinitly precious, and once we start culling off life because its “easier’ then we are doomed…

again, the artwork is amazing. i cant stress that strongly enough. really talented …

  • Ash Sivils replied

Yes, I mentioned the incest and rape.
As a woman I feel the need to say these
things as I have gone through issues
    that are relevant.

Also, if the mother’s life were in danger I agree
with abortion. There are all extreme cases and shouldn’t
be dismissed. It shouldn’t be so easy to end a child’s soon
    to be life.

I appreciate the feedback and the compliments, thank
    you very much

What are your views on abortion if a couple used contraception an it fails and the couple are not ready?

    A fascinating piece of art.

  • Ash Sivils replied

I believe they should have it
and give it up for adoption.
    Unless it effects the woman’s
    health, such as death.

    After a couple/ woman go
    through that, they are haunted
and I know many women that it
has effected and they regret it
    everyday.

Great job on this! I don’t believe in abortion, but I still do believe there should be a choice, for many reasons, such as what happens when there is no choice. (I was around when there wasn’t one and witnessed the horrors of that)

  • Ash Sivils replied

I must have missed this comment, my apologies!
I wasn’t around for that yet I was introduced to
abortion at the age of 6 so I have a firm grasp on
what happens. Adoption is a great option but what

  • Bonnie T. Barry

    Bonnie T. Barry

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! You are an artist and a brave one at that! I believe that the pro-life issue is mistakenly seen as and often bashed as a religious issue when in actuality it is a CIVIL RIGHTS issue. Our Constitution guarantees the right to LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to each of our citizens. The unborn are citizens and they are supposed to fall under this “protective” mantle. Blacks suffered long before the nation gave them their civil rights, after many marches, many speeches, much division and controversy. In the end, the right prevailed. This issue is no different. We must continue to march, to speak, to stand up for these silent little defensive citizens even if it causes division and brings us suffering. They are worth it. Your images touched me deeply and I am so happy that you speak out with your awesome talent and heart. May I request another image, one which I know you will be able to create, one entitled, “A child in the womb is not a potential person but a person with potential.” God bless you for your voice which rings out true and strong.

  • Ash Sivils replied

Wow, thank you so much Bonnie! Most people won’t
listen to words but they will listen with their eyes, the
best I can do is interpret how I feel and what I think.
I have gotten hate mail and I try to approach it rationally
but it’s difficult with radicalism on either side of the fence!

I believe you said it perfectly and with such eloquence!
I thank you and from the bottom on my heart, I agree
with you 100%. We have to take a stand because life
is life and can not be debated. I wish everyone to have
civil rights, I am Buddhist not a Christian so the argument
many have sought after failed with me. That in turn brings
great anger for them, I am not left or right wing, I am
independent and I disagree with the promoting of abortion.

Yes, the image you request can be done, thank you for
that as well. I am excited to get this response, I am used
to defending myself more than one should on opinions..
although I am prepared to since I put myself out there.
I was worried and you just gave me hope!

A Powerful image and a bloody great one! This is sooooo well done Ash.

A very tricky and touchy subject. Glad you have the guts to broach it.
Abortion is a HARD decision for anyone with a brain & a hART. But i don’t know Ash ? What is the point of having a child when you know it is going to have a SHIT life ? What about young girls who get pregnant at like 15 and know the pregnancy could ruin both mother and childs life ? Money is always a problem too. What if yr dirt poor, no hope of a decent education, fuk wit parents and you know if the child is born it is highly likely it will follow in the foot steps of the parents and the planet just ends up with more brain dead trash to pollute it ? Touchy subject in deed.
F*#King great work Ash. Bring it on Girl Friend ! Such a powerful image, i am finding it hard to stop looking and thinking on it.

With so many comments it may seem superfluous to add another, but just for the record I for one share your position on abortion. I believe this work to be admirable for that reason and in it’s own right. As for the rest of your work, it is for me of a very high standard.I have learnt much from it during my very short period here. Regarding the above poster’s reference to human beings as “brain dead trash” I would love to reply, but the rule regarding “playing nice” would seem to exclude appropriate comments.

  • Ash Sivils replied

No way, thank you for the comment!
As far as the comment about “brain dead trash”
I really haven’t read it and I’m not wanting to be
rude to anyone.. There are some people that
live near me that are “brain dead” due to drugs
and they have had an abortion one after another
and the state pays for it.. that annoys me a great deal.
As for people just being trash, nah I don’t agree with
that – people are people and come from different
places and have been through different things..I am
sure you know what I am talking about. There is always
a choice and I say it applies in all aspects of life, not
    just this topic!

Thank you for the great compliment, my work has caused
a slight stir but I am happy to have gotten a response!

Thank you for playing nice :)

I hafta tell you Ash, I love this image, but not the conversation. Please, I don’t want an argument, rational or not, but I disagree with the hardcore pro-life. Would that make me pro-death????? (rhetorical question)

  • Ash Sivils replied

Thank you doll and no, that does not make you pro-death
at all! You have your opinions and I have mine. I don’t believe
in radicalism on either side. It hurts the cause and no one can
justify one death with another (abortion bombers)

I had to answer your rhetorical – it was necessary for me to say no :)

When a pregnant woman is the victim of a crime such as murder or vehicular homicide, the responsible party can now be charged with two counts of murder or manslaughter. One for the woman , the other for the unborn child. However, it is legal for any woman to go into a clinic, regardless of the reason, and receive an abortion. Who decides when something as precious as human life is worth fighting for? Is it not still a life lost? Who speaks for the child who has no voice, no rights? On a lighter note , I am in awe of your work. It is intense and thought provoking. You are a brave and talented individual and I am so excited to have viewed your work here on RB.

  • Ash Sivils replied

    Thank you Dawn!

You know I was just debating that issue about 3 days ago.
It is a catch 22 and a lot of contradictions, the conclusion
I found was dumb. I wish I could find a better word to describe
it but it varies from state to state and the actions that took
place during the crime – seems odd to me.

I wondered why that is and I still continue to do so because
that answer just doesn’t make any sense to me. Even the
pro-choice party that was in the debate was dumbfounded,
they pretty much said they had no clue either.. ha ha

I think the government just dictates as they see fit. I don’t
understand all of the aspects even though I know plenty
on the matter and people that it has effected. I have
had people tell me I have not been through this or that,
that I am this type or person but know one knows who
we are and what we think unless we show them. Then
    again I keep to myself and I don’t say anything I wouldn’t
mind repeated, people assume too much as they do
    stances and subjects like these.

Did you know more men are pro-choice and more women
    are pro-life?

  • SaRaHKnOwDoG

    SaRaHKnOwDoG

    Ref: Dark Vampires comment:
I don’t like to see anything suffer. When i talk about brain dead trash i am referring to grown adult people who do not give a dam about anything or anyone else, unborn or not. That upsets me ! And it upsets me when people like that have children. Believe me, i saw so many girls at 14,15,16 giving birth to kids they really didn’t want. Girls who had no self worth, addicted to drugs and alcohol They just had them to catch a man, get out of school, so they could leave home ! Get money from the government! ( you get paid in Australia for having a kid ! ) That upsets me. And the people i feel for are the kids.

I was staying out of that one doll – I see where you are both coming from and I agree with you both to a certain extent.

  • dimarie

    dimarie

wow, you have really opened up so much thought and debate here… good on you.
okay…here are my views on it…
i have always been for freedom of choice…but only to a degree… selfishness is not a valid reason to terminate an unwanted pregnancy in my opinion… if it is so unwanted, and there are no medical reasons to terminate, i dont understand why more women dont give up 8 months out of their entire lives to go thru with the pregnancy, and find a loving family privately in that time who will adopt and love that child… women do do this, it does happen, adopt their ‘unwanted’ child out privately and legit too, all above board… so why not more? there are many loving would be parents who cannot have children of their own who would give these kids a loving nurturing home… its mainly red tape that stops kids from being with decent foster parents/adopted parents… (again, this is just my opinion, formed thru my own personal experiences with friends)
    So…
When i lost my first child, i had a friend at the time who continually got herself pregnant, and would continually get the unwanted pregnancies aborted, as a form of birth control basically… it killed me… there was a ‘few’ that she ‘took care of’ in the space of mere months… it was the end of our friendship, because as much as i am closer to a pro choice stance than a no option one, if i had to choose to be either…and i try to respect all others beliefs and opinions… i couldnt deal with her at the time, it was so heartbreaking to witness… while i mourned for our lost childs life, and would of done anything to get my child back…she was so cold to it all… she was given life again and again to throw it away like it was nothing. It wounded me more than i can express and the friendship suffered from that.
and thats where it all gets messed up. there are women who abuse the choice. but the choice (in my opinion) the choice needs to be there, but it should only be for those who really need it, as a last resort option thing… i dunno, its hard to be one way or the other, i can see both sides… the whole adoption thing needs rehauling too, my uncle and his wife had to travel to lebanon to adopt their daughter, as the australian government turned them down for being too old, yet they are great parents… i’ve met people who have been spat out again and again by the foster care and adoption cycle, and its heartbreaking also…
my partner, who has saved my life in more ways than one, his mother had him when she was 14. and she had no financial support, no real family help… and she still had him because she knew it was the right thing to do by her own heart, there was no medical reason to abort that pregnancy, sure she hadnt planned for ‘it’ but that was no reason to terminate…
Thank god, or whatever powers that be (i’m not religious by any means, just a phrase i use out of habit) because if she had of aborted that child, he wouldnot of grown up to be the most wonderful man i’ve met, and a wonderful daddy to our daughter…i would probably be dead now if it werent for him. He is smart and has a good heart…nothing wrong with him, so I’m so thankful his mother decided to keep him.
So age has no bearing in my mind on whether one should go thru with a pregnacy or not…. But as much as it pains me to say it, because i believe that our babies are aware and feel from the moment of conception… and also after losing a very much wanted baby in a very painful way just before he was born.. oh man, i’m getting lost in what i’m trying to say… there still does need to be a choice. even if i myself would never choose that option for myself, i recognise the need others do have.
I strongly believe that there needs to be more education, knowledge is power yea.. and i believe that there needs to be a choice, because if you take away that choice, some women and their unborn babies are going to be put in even more danger thru backyard abortions… because there will always be those who feel they have no other option and will subject themsleves to such horrors..
but it Never ever should be used as a form of birth control.. that just does my head in…
Medical reasons (real life threatening ones…, not like when you find out your baby mite have down syndome , because again i feel that is selfish to terminate on reason such as that… i go to bellydancing with two down-syndrome girls and they are the happiest friendliest girls i’ve had the pleasure to meet :))
so yea, apart from medical reasons, or perhaps where one has been raped (tho again i think adopting out would be a better option, i have not been put in such a position to judge tho, thankfully, although i thought i was at one point when a teenager, but i was just late, and i rememebr the relief i felt, because i would not of aborted, not ever, but i wouldnt of known how to address the question of who their father was, i would of been scared witless that i would resent their presence if they grew up to resemble him… omg it was messed up, and i only went thru that for two weeks before i found out i wasn’t pregnant… so i can only imagine the emotional turmoil a woman goes thru when that test is positive after surviving rape )
i’m going to stop there for now… if you ever want to talk more about it, feel free to bubblemail me :)
    Take Care!

oh i’m so sorry, i never realised how long that comment was of mine! :)
you can delete it if you like, i wont be offended, it does take alot of space up :)

  • Ash Sivils replied

I didn’t seen this comment before. Sometimes I lose track of comments
and such – my apologies. I accept all opinions and I rather not delete it, I want everyone to be able to say how they feel. If you have an opinion and you can word it without slanderous terms or abuse – you are always welcome to comment a novel :)

I believe you have fantastic points and very valid reasoning. I am not
100% against abortion, I don’t think it should be banned. I do believe
the same as you … restrictions! Some women here also have several
abortions, that bothers me greatly. Now that the abortions are being
funded by our government again there should be even harsher restrictions.

Age: I believe that age such as 12-16 should have that option. All but
1 out of all of the girls I knew in school had the baby and kept it. One
girl had an abortion because her parents thought it was the “right thing
to do” at the time. I can understand that but I think their reason was
because they were horrible parents and didn’t want people thinking
less of them because their 14 year old daughter was pregnant by
an older teen. They failed at parenting and they knew it, this isn’t
the case with all parents, just them!

Adoption: Some women such as myself will have to adopt. I don’t
care the gender, race, health defects – none of it matters to me as
long as I get to share my life with a child. I have a bleeding heart and
would take in all of them if I was able. No one is able so we have foster
parents (which I would also like to be a part of) ... some are horrid
and some are fantastic. I know of people that take in children and
never want to give them up, it’s heart wrenching! I am supporting
the hell out of gay marriage because more and more gay people
want a child. Of course they are not able to conceive but damn,
I know some fantastic gay couples that would be amazing parents.
Everyone has a right to be happy and to live life as they see fit as
long as it doesn’t intentionally harm others physically (in my opinion).

I think that so many people who are pro-life have stories much like
yourself and that is why we understand the stance. People tell me
until I go through it I will never understand. I believe that they have
a point yet they don’t understand my position because they have
never been in it, that street goes two ways. I know so many women
that are now pro-life because they did go through it and they are
not recovering. What is so sad is the doctors don’t tell these women
the results. Yes you are babyless but what does it do to the woman
physically, mentally and emotionally? If the government is going to
assist in abortions they should be assisting people with therapy and
    doctor appointments before and after.

Breast cancer is linked to abortions as well as sexual dysfunction,
depression, flash backs, insomnia, infertility, drug abuse, eating
disorders etc. A lot of women have several children because they
are trying to fill the void of the baby they gave up. These are not my
words as they are facts and actions of people around the world.
I will not shun a friend that has an abortion but I sure as hell would
inform her of ALL of the possibilities. Women who have multiple
abortions, well a friendship would not last between us.

Bottom line, abortion should be a case by case scenario. Although I
don’t like it at all I do understand there are reasons. Sometimes the
best thing and the right thing are not one of the same.

Again, so so sorry this is so late!

I deeply regret having agreed to a former girlfriend’s abortion when I was a young man. It was the worst mistake of my life. As it is, my wife and I don’t have children of our own, although we support several, but we’ve never seen them, cos they live in other countries. Trying to balance the karma, on my part. This image speaks volumes! Anybody who considers abortion should think very deeply before making the decision!!

I am pro-life and feel that babies (yes, babies) should only be aborted if the mother’s health is truly in danger. Also, if the woman/girl is the victim of rape or incest. Very moving art. xo

  • Ash Sivils replied

Thank you. I agree with you on this topic. Most times it’s a case by case scenario, some people take advantage of the progression of medicine. It’s not religion that binds me to this choice, it’s life in general.
