Amoxes

Amoxes is a self taught Canadian metis artist of Native American, Acadian & Italian background based at the moment in Quebec City. His family roots & a strong interest in every culture from around the world have inspired him in many ways in his artistic and personal evolution. After spending years of exploring, practicing and studying different styles and techniques, he is slowly creating his own signature in his art work. He chooses to paint a particular person because something about this person triggers his imagination. Facial expressions & reproducing the wanted emotion are very important to him. The most crucial thing in his mind is to stay true to what he wants to express. Exploring is a constant discipline for him. His love for a multitude of music as a D-J and the arts and philosophy of martial arts help him keep a positive mental and physical attitude in his everyday life. He does not believe in detachment, suffering or the consumption of substances as means to achieve a unique view of the world. In his mind, all aspects of human existence need to be nurtured in order to create art that can serve the community. A strong body, mind and spirit are essential in achieving his most ambitious goals and avoiding social and mental traps and limitations.

In general

Amoxes is in constant evolution; he never considered himself to be a master & never will. Staying simple & open-minded when it comes to improving what has to be done or changed is enough. Being close to the local & international community is important for him; and staying alert with what’s truly going on around helps him with his creativity. Since 1987, he has produced more than one thousand paintings and illustrations, not to mention sculptures, wall frescos and Native American jewellery. Some of his work can be found in many private collections across Canada, France, Italy & Switzerland. Most of his art can be seen online on Deviant art where his work is updated on a regular basis, and Artbreak and Facebook where he announces his expo events. As an illustrator, Amoxes has also participated in various book projects, Paul Stroff a French noir poetry book published in 1999 and Eddy-Cibel another poetry book on a Native American Shaman’s journey, published in 2000. In 2008, a test press of Ventcour was published. This last project would become two years later Les-Cahiers-De-Ventcour, an illustrated international short story book featuring 12 different authors where he illustrated and published some of his own stories. In his art portfolio one will find various artistic explorations where shamanism and voodooism mix together, creating a very interesting style of work. His family roots and his personal experiences have always influenced his curiosity on these topics, not to mention anything related to the occult(what is hidden)and its history. These interests are exclusively aesthetic and do not involve any participation whatsoever in any groups or religion; as he likes to say: “We can be the mug without drinking
the tea”

From 2005 to 2009, his work centered in creating a collection of erotic paintings and illustrations. These pieces convey an interesting perspective on the female, portraying feet, hair and nude poses with unprecedented femininity and originality. In 2010 he decided his erotic exploration was exhausted and moved on to other topics.

Today he is still working on many artistic projects, expos and is always on the look out for new ways to improve himself in his work. When asked what style would fit his art he simply replies: “I paint people, that is all.”
