Yellow-headed Blackbird – Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus. Taken May 9 at Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge north of Stevensville, Montana, USA. Summer resident in Montana. These birds need water. They feed on aquatic insects. And nests are located only over water, fixed to dead emergent vegetation from the previous year or fixed to robust growing vegetation. The mest is an open cup, compact and rigid.
