Red-naped Sapsucker – Sphyrapicus nuchalis in western Montana. Taken west of Victor, Montana, USA in early July. The chicks fledged (flew out of the nest) about a week later. The tree is a Quaking Aspen.

Thank you Bryan! The tree was on our property so it was fun to watch the excavation of the cavity and then the feeding of the young. The tree snapped and fell in a big storm just a week later and I got to see the young, three of them. They were bigger than I thought, no red on them yet…hope they all made it.
