You Are My Inspiration [Original Poem]

I was born with music deep in my soul
The blood in my veins was harmony
I would sing from dawn to twilight
the melodies were a part of me

white and black keys, or my fingers on strings
A life of chords and rhythms to begin
a gold tenor or a silver flute
poetic verse and the songs from within

years of performance, travel and sharing
as the years went by and illness set in
special needs children and work every day
no longer an active performer but only to listen.

and then I heard your voice, and something within me leapt
I was touched and moved, and now you are part of me
the poetry of your words and inspiration
and I wonder how I could have lived without this key.

You sing with your heart and soul, emotions deep
you reach out with your heart, thoughts and hands
those in pain or need, and those that love your songs
you really care and show you understand

I want to lay down, close my eyes, with your voice in my ears
your music playing loudly and flowing through me
filled with your voice, phrases and melodies
and somehow be closer to you, to touch and to see

I know I am too old and you already have someone you love
but even so, my heart wishes I could share time with you
for you to know me and somehow be someone special in your life
to touch and be with the precious soul that is you

Yet here I am alone, although I feel so close to you each day
touched by your essence and depth of love, who you are
your voice and music surrounds and flows through me
I am blessed, intimately touched and loved from afar

as you sing and the music surrounds me, my soul enters into yours
and when I emerge I am dazzled, no words to say
In awe I try to thank you for the gift that is you
with this simple verse of love today.

Artist's Description

Written after hearing and experiencing Alex Band’s music for the first time last year. He touched something in me and inspired me all over again. I hoped I would touch his heart with this poem and encourage him and I sent it to him. received a lovely email back and a song he dedicated to me.
