Candy Apples [Original Prose]

Last night I had a dream
And you were with me.
We sat in a boat and there was water everywhere.
I saw no trees, no mountains, no buildings
Just water everywhere.

You smiled and said quite nonchalantly,
“it is another flood”
“What an understatement” I said and laughed.

Suddenly we noticed there were people in the water
Some were screaming, some were trying to swim
Panic set in and I knew it was time

“Get the life jackets!” I yelled
“Get those oars
We have to save them.”

You smiled and did not move.
I reached over the side and grabbed a hand that was reaching up
As I pulled the woman into the boat,
Where she had landed lay a candy apple.

I gasped
And you said
“They were dead anyway”

This was prose I wrote based on a real dream I had. I am still unsure what it really meant – perhaps I felt I valued people and their lives and souls more than the people I was working with at the time? written in about 1977 when I was working for Youth For Christ. Or maybe I felt at the time that my work was useless and not producing any results. I am unsure. if you think you know what it meant – let me know. I had to write it down because it was so startling to me.

My name is Jane. I am an artist, writer, photographer, and an admirer of the arts. Here on RB I share my photography, writing, collages and art, and host many groups. I hope you enjoy my work.
