This is a close up of the top of the Jesus statue at the Salvatorian Monastery. The Monastery is just behind Kips Castle in Verona NJ. My daughters and I had just discovered Kips Castle location and when driving into the parking lot, saw that behind the lot there was a narrow drive that connected to the drive to the Salvatorian Monastery. This beautiful statue of Jesus is at the center of the circular drive to the monastery.

I took this on Sunday, 20-Jan-2013. If you look at the trees behind the statue you will the golden glow from the sunset touching them. the play of light with the sunset rays really enhances this shot I think.

This statue close up brought to mind the song by Casting Crowns. Casting Crowns is a contemporary Christian and Christian rock band. The song is East To West

Lyrics to East to West

Here I am Lord and I’m drowning
In Your sea of forgetfulness
The chains of yesterday surround me
I yearn for peace and rest
I don’t want to end up where You found me
and it echoes in my mind
keeps me awake tonight

I know You’ve cast my sin as far
as the East is from the West
and I stand before You now
as though I’ve never sinned
but today I feel like I’m just one mistake away
from You leaving me this way

Jesus can You show me just how far the East is from the West?
cause I can’t bear to see the man I’ve been
Rising up in me again
In Your arms of mercy I find rest
You know just how far the East is from the West
From one scarred hand to the other

I can’t live by what I feel
about the Truth Your Word reveals
and I’m not holding onto You
but You’re holding onto me
You’re holding onto me.

Jesus can You show me just how far the East is from the West?
cause I can’t bear to see the man I’ve been
Rising up in me again
In Your arms of mercy I find rest
You know just how far the East is from the West
From one scarred hand to the other

The sad thing about this statue is that it has cracked lines that run through it. It looks like it was in pieces – maybe cut to be shipped to the Monastery? Or maybe the cracks are from the cold weather? but it has lines all the way through it and also coming half way down Jesus’ face. I fixed the photo above of the statue with the clone tool to smooth out and hide the cracks, but I am adding the untouched photo here. (see below) it is very apparent when you look at the full statue because it has splits or cracks all the way across it the whole length of the statue. I previously posted a full view of this statue which I also touched up to hide the cracks. very sad because this statue is gorgeous.
