Artist's Description

Today March 8th is my sister’s BD. When I was 3 years old, my mom was 8 months pregnant. we were coming home from church and a woman ran a stop sign and slammed right into our car – broadsided us. I can still remember the impact and being thrown across the car. She hit the car right on my mother’s passenger side. Everyone seemed fine, but the next AM after my dad had gone to work, I got up and came downstairs and my mom was on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. I ran and got a neighbor and they rushed her to the hospital. THey performed a C section to deliver the premature baby. Back in 1955 they did not have the skills they do today. She only lived 4 days. poor little thing. Back then they also did not have the mother as involved – my mom never got to see her or hold her. very very sad. this day is always hard for her. My youngest sister Phyl, my youngest daughter Shinae, myself and my parents went to Peggy Jean’s grave today to remember her BD. I had bought a palm cross and some very bright colorful flowers and my daughter suggested the little pink teddy bear. It was a good way to remember my dear little sister.
