When you drive into Shepherd Lake area, Ringwood State Park NJ, you see this gorgeous Stone chapel on your right up on a hill. It is a beautiful stucture. I sent email to the state of NJ and they got me information on the chapel. The chapel is called “The Church of St. Luke, the Beloved Physician”.
The chapel was built at the request of Ann M. Loomis in 1895 to perpetuate the memory of her husband Dr. Alfred Lee Loomis, who had died that year. The church is built of solid granite and originally had Tiffany glass stained windows. Unfortunately they were knocked out by vandals some time in the early 1960s.
