Moche Nude

A nice, dark, little painting.

I was inspired to paint this on an old bread board after watching an episode of a TV series about death in art over time. The Moche civilization in ancient Peru have a wall with some amazing images on it, nearby of which a massive burial ground was found filled with human remains, likely the site of a sacrifice. I was so inspired after watching this episode, by the end I was enthralled, so I am intrigued to try and explore this notion of death in painting.

My google-fu wasn’t really working the next day so I couldn’t find images of that wall (granted I didn’t look very hard) but I did find some images of another wall pattern from the Moche peeps which to me somehow recalls 8-bit arcade games. Some of which I have used on this painting.

Acrylic and glitter on wood, 30×30 cm.

I like painting on old wood, particularly old bread boards, so I’m going to try and find some more if I can!
