Rest At Sea

So many things that I want to say
Immersed in the typhoon of life
Watching the rain lift off the shutters
Taking each gust in stride
Seeing the tide creep closer to my feet
I stand at the beach’s edge waiting
Will the water wash away the pain

Carry me out to sea
I want to drift face down
Peace found amongst the fish
Solitude in a watery grave
Bubbles floating to the surface
No life there to save

Hair waving like sea weed
The turbulence of each crashing wave
Nature taking its course
A lifeless body its victim
Finding rest in the coral
Looking up a final time
The faithful light, only sunbeam refraction

Sinking to greater depths
A hush never heard
A darkness never seen
Far away from all thought
Clarity as breathing ceases
Finally grasping what is sought
