Budding Cherry Blossoms

Amanda Press

Guelph, Canada

Artist's Description

We went out an planted a cherry tree in our backyard a few years ago. It started out as looking significantly similar to twig that someone stuck into the earth, and now it’s flourishing and a few meters tall. It took a few years before it started flowering, and each year since, it has more flowers when it does bloom. These flowers are beautiful but don’t even last a week before they start to brown and drop.
The number of flowers = the amount of cherrys that the tree will have. The cherries are ready for picking later in the summer, and we have to fight the birds (especially robins!) for them.
