I met this guy at the coffee shop,
My heart pounded, and it would not stop
I ordered raisin toast, with butter
And my heart did give a flutter
This guy looked across at me,
As he began to sip his tea
And then, subtly, he gave a wink
I did not know what to think
I know that my face was bright red
And so I did turn my head
He beckoned me to his table
I went there as soon as I was able
He then whispered in my ear
‘tell me what you’re doing here.’
I admit, I got tongue-tied
My eyes had been opened wide
‘Um, for lunch,’ is what I stuttered
Before I smeared myself in butter
‘sit down, the next course is on me.
Could I have another tea?’
And as my new friend received the pot,
With the tea, so piping hot
He said ‘This one’s for you, my dear,’
As he gently stroked my ear
He then walked me home that night,
And my head felt very light
I felt like I had walked on air
And knew that I would go back there
To the coffee shop, I mean
Because I hope to repeat the scene
