Otter
Otters are small fish eating mammals. They are found in Europe, North America, Asia, North Africa and a giant otter found in parts of South America. The giant otters are becoming rare as they are hunted by poachers, habitat loss and the toxic affect of some of the chemicals used by the mining industry.
In Europe they are affected by pesticides and are frequently hit by cars. The sea otter was nearly hunted to extinction in the early 1900’s for the quality of the fur, they are now that uncommon, there are not enough of them left in the wild to be profitable any more.
The otter is a very active and playful animal. The sea otter lives on the sea but other otters hunt and play in the water but spend most of their time on the land to prevent becoming waterlogged.
