I thought I would give you all a quick tour of my work place. The last trip I did was 3200kms leaving Monday at 6pm and arriving home mid afternoon Friday. I only hit 1 kangaroo (which made me feel unwell as it was my first – and made a nasty crunch sound, yuk) and managed to avoid all other wildlife – bugs excluded.
For those interested we started Here and drove through the centre of Western Australia, up to Port Headland, across to Broome and then through to mile marker 3080, about 100 kms short of Kununurra.
The truck is a brand new Volvo FH16 Globetrotter (it comes with bunk beds), 660 horsepower, twin steer and a whole lot of other stuff I know nothing about! Oh and it’s white. If you want to know any stats Here is the link.
The set up was a B-Double with a dolly and dog trailer behind (I don’t know exactly but could be a C-Train, I will ask hubby and confirm later) and we were over 50 meters long. We were towing cement for road maintenence crews and in total weighed over 120 tonnes.
Sorry for the vagueness, just thought someone might be interested to see what I do for work, (hubby was home looking after the kids for a week so I took advantage and went to work myself).

Richard Hamilt...
Only a small truck then Amanda !!! LOL..
Not the sort of truck you could drive round my part of the UK.
Well done to you, and thanks for giving us an insight into your working life.
Amanda McLennan:
It would be a challenge to drive around the old laneways in this wouldn’t it – I wouldn’t want to drive them in a car (been a passenger too many times) let alone drive them in my little lorry! Glad you like the insight – pleased to share.

BLOODY HELL!!!!!!!!!
I want your job, I,do I,do I,do I,do………………….
Amanda McLennan:
Cool ey……………………Do you wanna turn, I’ll let you have a steer!
roybarry
Can I honk the horn, too…………?
Amanda McLennan:
Don’t bother………………the horn is rubbish, we were going to use it to scare the cows off the road but were to afraid they would fall over laughing and not be able to get out of the way fast enough.
roybarry
OK, i’ll steer and make my own “parp, parp” noises…………
Amanda McLennan:
Or, we could attatch a bicycle bell to the steering wheel!
roybarry
Yay!!!
Amanda McLennan:
Wohoo – we’re going trucking! YeeHaa!

I used to drive trucks for many years here in the US… and read about the road trains of the Australian outback several years ago… I decided pretty early on that the outback wasn’t for me… but the idea of the trains made for an interesting read. Bless you and those who do it. I wish you safety and health.
Amanda McLennan:
The outback is a great place to see and visit, the scenery is amazing and I feel lucky to be able to do this for a job. You should give it a try, there is always work available for good drivers!
LavenderMoon
I guess I’d have to figure out a way to migrate from my continent to yours… : )
Amanda McLennan:
Come over on a holiday or working visa and then get married to some random bloke! Too easy, lol.
LavenderMoon
Hahaha.. ‘random bloke’… hahahaha married…HAAHAHAHAHA!
Hahaha.. ‘random bloke’… hahahaha married…HAAHAHAHAHA!God love ya… I don’t wanna drive them THAT badly! Whew!
Amanda McLennan:
I wouldn’t either………………………..! I don’t think any amount of pay would make that a tempting offer!
