Amanda had lived her entire life behind masks. Childhood was the easiest, she just smiled & laughed her way through the trials & tribulations of growing up . . . of growing into her own skin.
The posturing masks of pretending to be a grown up were the most difficult to wear, they pinched in all the wrong places . . . striving for acceptance . . . trying too hard to be the best . . . even the practised smile of her youth got a little tighter, a little less spontaneous than it once upon a time was.
Amanda’s armoury shielded her from the glare & scrutiny of other peoples opinions of who they thought she was . . . who they wanted her to be. On occasion her shield became a weapon to distance those intent on penetrating her defences.
A mask does its job for a day, or a year, or . . . think of a number. But it gets harder over time to maintain the façade, to keep up the pretence. There comes a time when all the masks start to look the same, when you start to wonder who it is staring back at you in “that reflection” . . .
That was the day Amanda walked out into the world for the first time.

Amanda, you could replace your name and your story would probably describe 95 percent of the people. Such is the nature of being human.
We all come into the world with baggage even before we take our first breath…and it is uphill from then on. Even having to learn to focus our eyes is a chore. Not being able to understand where we are or what is going on has to be truly frustrating to a newborn…all the masks we see are blurred.
Once our eyes focus, we see what we think is a real face, but it changes with each new confrontation. Our mother and our father are masters with masks and we learn quickly from them. If we have siblings, again they teach us how to changes faces for the circumstance. None of them are even aware of the masks…they just change them as needed. Recognizing this is an enlightening experience most will never know.
Very well written Amanda. well done…..xxxxx
thank you so much Ann (have i got that right?) . . . i’m so in the zone you’ve just spoken of so eloquently . . . loving the journey, all be it that some of the stop-overs have been a little fraught on occassion. Fortuneately the older i get the clearer the view is . . . I look forward to chatting again soon

Well all i know is she left under duress, im sorry i cant remember the details but she was defending her christian beliefs and felt she was under attack, it was sad and she did have a lot of support in trying to get her to stay………….

hmmm . . . i’m sorry to hear that . . . my RB experience has been entirely +ve & supportive, it’s very disappointing that Ann or anyone has left because of their faith, no matter what their spiritual beliefs may be
