Happy 4th of July! Celebrate your independence with independent art

I’m predominantly a portrait artist. Originally, I emulated Medieval and Renaissance art, as this was my art inspiration since aged 12. I honed my oil skills (painted on wood panel) in the 90’s by painting historical portraits, Holbein being my number one inspiration. I combined my art history and Theatrical prop-making background to produce what I suppose could be described as a sort of Ancestral portrait meets Historical film prop. They wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home or museum.

One of my Historical pieces can be seen in the Doctor Who episode “The Girl in the Fireplace”. I painted Sophia Myles as Madame de Pompadour.

I now work digitally (although I have not, and never will, turn my back on oils!). Although I do miss that tangible piece at the end of the project, Portraiture using Photoshop is exhilarating and altogether a more enjoyable creative process. I have worked with Photoshop since 1999. I am as much at home with my stylus and tablet as I am with my paint brushes.

Now what gets my juices flowing is, comic book art and 60’s Sleazy pulp novel covers.
