Amanda J Slack-Smith

Exhibition opening - Brunswick Art Space

Well, I had an image for Unleashed but it looks like the upload took too long and I missed the deadline. Oh well, best of luck to everyone else.

If anyone is interested in seeing some of my work in a gallery I will be exhibiting in a group show next week called ‘Still Moving’ at the Brunswick Art Space at 2A Little Breese St Brunswick, Melbourne.

Opening is on Friday 23rd March from 6-9pm. I hope to see some of you there.

Cheers,
Amanda

Amanda I would love to come to the exhibition. Can you tell me how long it is on for? I think your work is really great. Where did you study?

    Hey Whirligig,

Many thanks for the interest in the show. It is on until April 20th. The gallery hours are Thursday – Sunday 12-5pm.

Thank you also for your kind comments – they are appreciated.

In regards to studying I’ve had an adventure. I’ve just finished a Master of Arts at RMIT which was great but I ended up learning more about digital art at TAFE because it wasn’t offered at Uni back in the early 90’s. It was a great experience and has kept me working with digital media ever since. I’m actually back at night TAFE at moment trying to wrap my head around electronics, which is certainly keeping me occupied.

What about you? What is your passion?

Hi Amanda, sorry for the delay but I’ve been really preoccupied with other things. Thanks for the info on your exhibition, and I’ll definitely be making a trip to see your work.

My passion is still drawing/printmaking etc, and I’ve now added creative writing to that. They seem to work together. Sometimes when I’m writing I get ideas for artwork, but unfortunately setting up for drawing or printmaking involves huge blocks of time, which at the moment is really limited. I did the Certificate in Fine Arts at TAFE, and then studied part-time at RMIT for 5 years (BA in Fine Arts-Printmaking) but left with one final subject to go….....things just happen sometimes that are beyond our control. Anyway, I was starting to feel that my expectations at RMIT weren’t being met, with huge cuts and minimal contact with staff. But now I’m back on the creative track and feel very inspired to work at my art again. Apart from all of this I work full time in a dead boring job, I love photography, ballroom dancing, and I play golf!

Whirligig, how wonderful! You are a creative adventurer! It is so good that you cross over into literature as well as visual arts with such grace. Time is always such a challenge – I also find I never seem to have enough of it either. I understand your reticence in moving back to printmaking and drawing with both needed a large amount of space and time. This is one of the reasons I love image manipulation, as long as you have the equipment the creative possibilities are endless. Something I see you have also discovered :)

I am happy to hear you are feeling inspired again – especially since we get to see your new work here.
