A shaggy chestnut draft ponym known as a halflinger, with a blonde mane and a white blaze marking on it’s face works at the bit in it’s mouth as it waits restlessly to pull another sleigh full of sightseers around scenic Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.

Taken with a Canon Rebel XSi using a 70-300mm lens.

looking at this darling, I’d say he is a HAFLINGER – a draft pony breed originally from Austria, they stand about 14-14.3hh but have the musculature of a heavy horse – they only come in chestnut with flaxen mane/tail & are very photogenic (like this guy!)

  • Thanx for the info ;)

Such a cutie!! He is not full size is he? Beautiful tho!!

  • I am no horse expert, but I was informed from someone who knows these sorts of things, based on other photos of him, that he is a haflinger. They are a breed of draft pony from Austria. They average only 14 hands tall at the shoulder but are built like much larger draft horses.
