Spectacled Monarch taken at the Atherton Tablelands by

I am back up north with some fellow birders for the next six weeks so I apologise if I am slow in replying. The destination is the tip of Cape York so internet access will be very limited. I also intend to spend time at Iron Range.
The Spectacled Monarch is a beautiful but strange looking bird. It lives in the forest and is reluctant to come out from cover of the forest. To shoot this shot I used an ISO setting of 6400 to compensate for the poor lighting. Posted 7/7/2012

I specialise in Photographing birds in their natural environment. To date I have photographed over 450 Australian species. If you like to view great bird shots please visit my site. I also like to photograph Landscape scenes but this is my second choice. I love nature and love to see and capture it when it is living free.

It’s beautiful! Have been fascinated to see this bird, you haven’t disappointed me. What a great shot, the colour, poise and clarity are fabulous. Well done again….. Anita

  • Hi Anita. Many thanks for the comment. Yes was lucky and managed a couple of shots of these but had to delete most of them. They are beautiful. All the best.

Nice find Alwyn, well captured, have a great trip
    cheers Rick

  • Hi Rick, Yes having a great trip but all of a sudden I have hit a drought. The bird life has dried up probably because of the bad weather we are having at the Cape.

You have the knack of capturing great shots alwyn

  • Thanks Stephen for your comments and support. Had a couple of bad days up at Iron Range with thiss bad weather. The birds seem to have gone to ground.

A beautiful result considering the challenges Alwyn. Stunning little bird too. How are the leaches up that way?

  • Hi Phil. No real luck the last couple of days up here at Iron Range. Shot three birds today and one of them was a total wipeout. I put it down to the bad weather up here. Yes the leaches got into me and I had to have one of the bights between my toes opened up to relieve the pressure build up. They give me hell.
