Caught this one unaware of my presence at Ash Island in Newcastle NSW yesterday, (7/01/2012). These small birds were on the decline but the numbers, although not plentiful, appear to be increasing this year over recent years. White Fronted Chats like to live near water around this area and they feed on the mud flats and sand flats as the tide recedes. They also like the mangroves on Ash island although at Hexam swamp they seem to like the reeds as there are no mangroves there. Best Viewed Larger.
Great to capture this one unaware! Lets hope they keep increasing in numbers……. If the rains keep up then we should see an increase in numbers. Hoping all water birds increase in numbers, they are amazing!
Hi Anita, Thanks for your comments with which I totally agree. I do hope that the numbers keep increasing. It is great to see these birds around again.
